For those interested in early New Zealand history, it's worth calling into the Albertlanders Museum in Wellsford, and then driving out to where these brave, hardy souls worked so hard to establish their new life.
Today, of course, it's very different from the land they arrived in. There were no roads then, the land not fertile, and life was very hard. We arrived on a sunny afternoon in early autumn, to find established farms and a small community that has taken a pride in its heritage.
There's a playground if you are travelling with children, and you could try your luck fishing from the wharf, or further out in the harbour if you have a boat or kayaks.
