Shelly Beach Campsite is located on the east coast of the South Head Peninsula. There's a cafe, direct access to the beach, and occassionally, good fishing.
We called in on a sunny summer weekend, and the reserve was full of holiday makers enjoying the sunshine. The fish were biting off the pier, which was also full up with enthusiastic fishermen.
We had a stroll around and checked out the facilities before having a coffee in the cafe. It's a really nice location, looking out over the harbour while sipping on a latte.
The campsite is really just a parking area set aside for campers. It has powered sites, and showers and toilets are available in the public toilets. There's also a dump station and fresh water. However, the water is untreated, so it should be boiled before drinking.
The cafe runs the campsite, and you need to check in there for the keys to access the parking area. It's a good idea to book in advance over the summer holidays, as it is clearly very popular.
