The Parry Kauri Park and Museum is just south of Warkworth, and is well worth visiting for the forest environment as well as the museum.
It is a lovely quiet and sheltered location, where self-contained motor caravanners can park overnight. We parked front of the huge Kauri Tree, and then took some time to look through the museum.
For those interested in early New Zealand history, this is a real treat, and well worth browsing for an hour or so. They have a magnificent collection of Kauri gum, as well as displays that show what life was like for the early pioneers 100 or more years ago.
Outside, you can also explore the forest walks and outside buildings. The entrance gate is locked overnight between 8 pm and 6.30 am the next morning, making it a safe and peaceful location for staying overnight.
