The Waiuku Service Centre is close to the town centre, and has a parking area set aside for freedom camping in self-contained vans.
There are three parking areas for the centre, and the one that motor caravanners can use is at the rear of the main building.
This was a bit confusing for us, as there are no signs in the main parking area, and we just assumed that this was where we could stay. It wasn't until I walked around the building that I saw the sign identifying the freedom camping parking.
There are public toilets just across the road as well as a local museum.
