As you drive south past Lake Paringa, you will come to the South Westland Salmon Farm, where you can stop for cafe refreshments while overlooking the salmon pools.
The cafe is very nice, and was well attended while we were there mid-week on an overcast autumn afternoon. We enjoyed our lunch and found it quite interesting to see how they are able to farm salmon by allowing the fresh water river to flow through their holding pools.
There was also a range of salmon products available for purchase.
They have a nice off-road sealed carpark, which includes an outside toilet. It may be possible to stay overnight, but you would need to ask in the cafe.
