WEST COAST: HOKITIKA

There is a public dump station (PDS) in a parking area beside the oxidation ponds on the main road north of Hokitika.

With easy access and a great view, the only negative is the ridiculous push-button operation of the fresh water tap. Holding the button down for 5 minutes while we fill up wtih fresh water is a real pain.

We've noticed a number of public dump stations that do that now, and can understand that the local council might be concerned at the possibility that the tap will be left running - but we have never seen this happen in the time that we've been travelling.
