WEST COAST: HOKITIKA

The Surveyors Monument Reserve is a small off-road parking area with a view out over the harbour. 

The memorial is to Leonard John Kearton Holmes, who died in 1995, and was clearly of some significance in surveying this part of the country.

There are two parking areas. One is a nice quiet location near the monument at the top of a small hill, and could be a good place to overnight.

There is a larger parking area near the road entrance.

There are no signs forbidding overnight parking.
