The rest area at the summit of the long winding road over the Rimutaka range provides a welcome break to stretch your legs and enjoy the view.
There is an information kiosk at the top that describes the challenges of building the road over the mountain range, as well as some walks through the regional park.
The memorial plaque commemorates the first European crossing of the Rimutaka range into the Wairarapa in 1841.
On a fine day, the view is stunning. Motor caravanners have the advantage of being able to stop for a coffee as well as to stretch their legs. Well worth doing...
