Kaitoke Water Reservoir is accessed from a parking area off State Highway 2 and offers a short walk to a magnificent view over the park and water reservoirs.
Driving northwards from Upper Hutt just before you come to the steep and winding Rimutaka hill, there is a layover with sign for the Kaitoke Regional Park and Reservoir. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon, and we decided to stop and have a look, and were astonished at the magnificent view over the twin reservoirs.
It's the kind of location that you might drive past many times without ever stopping. We're glad we did.
