WELLINGTON: KAPITI COAST

Field Way Carpark is a small beach front parking area where self-contained motor caravanners can park overnight.

It is a handy location with access to the beach, and right next to a bus stop. It even includes a fresh water tap.

The tap is most likely intended for washing off sandy feet, and doesn't have a threaded spigot to use for refilling your water tank.

Unlike the other Waikanae beach front carparks, the freedom parking sign prohibits cars and tents, but not specifically motorhomes. According to the Freedom Camping Act, this should allow overnight parking in motorhomes and caravans, but it is a little confusing.

It may also be that the sign refers to driving or tent camping on the beach. If unsure, you should check with the council if you want to stay overnight.
