Tongariro Base Camp at the entrance to the greater Tongariro National Park and offers very excellent facilities and is a good base for exploring the area.
Check their website for all the activities in the area. The Tongariro Crossing is very popular, which takes 7 to 8 hours and passes through active volcanoes, steam vents and hot springs. The camp staff can provide bus transport to the starting point, and also pickup on the way back.
