Totara Reserve Regional Park is home to two DOC campgrounds - Rangi Woods and Keruru campgrounds. Tucked away in New Zealand bush, with excellent facilities, this was a very unexpected, upmarket DOC camping area.
There are bush walks to explore, and abundant native birds, and a glow worm cave nearby. The facilities are well maintained. Pay campsite fees to caretaker on site.
Please note that there are STRICTLY NO DOGS.
There were only a few campers when we visited just before the start of the Christmas holiday season. However, we were advised that the camps were fully booked over the holiday season. Best to avoid this time, or plan to book well in advance.
