Picnic area beside the roadside parking
There is a roadside parking area in Mercer, along the Waikato river, where self-contained motor caravanners can park overnight for free.
It is next to the Irish Pub, with a restaurant and lounge bar, should you want to take a break from preparing meals. There is also a Mobil service station for refueling.
UPDATE: 3-May-2020
We just received this message from the Mercer Communitee Committee:
"The riverside parking a top old wharf is no longer available, there has been subsidence and the parking area is fenced off, it is to be turned into a grassed picnic area with tables, the parking is now just past the old wharf where campers could park.
We are looking at putting in a RV parking spot with kitchen/toilets etc in the future"
