There is a small parking area opposite the Rangipo dam and water outlet where self-contained motor caravanners can park overnight.
The parking area is quite sheltered, and you have a nice view of the dam and water spout. There is also access to the river, which might be good for trout fishing.
You can also drive across to the dam, where there is additional parking. Just be careful to pay attention to the parking safety sign, and don't park within 30 metres of the sign.
