The Rangitaiki Tavern is in the high country along the main highway between Taupo and Napier. Well know for it's hunting and fishing, it also offers overnight parking for self-contained motor caravanners
We called in briefly to get some pictures, and noticed a ute parked in front of the taven entrance. With three dead wild boars loaded on the back, this pretty much sums up what this rugged part of our country is all about.
The fishing is also good in the Rangitaiki and Whirinaki rivers, and the tavern offers accommodation and meals for the hunters and fishermen attracted to the area. Probably not as much interest to most motor caravanners, but it is interesting to see.
There is plenty of room for parking overnight, and good basic food to be had in the tavern if you want to take a break from cooking.
