Rangitaiki Lodge is on the high plateau along the Taupo to Napier highway, and near the junction of the Rangitaiki and Whirinaki rivers.
They provide basic campsite facilities and a popular restaurant if you want to take a break from preparing meals.
The restaurant looked quite nice, and has received some great reviews, but we were just passing through on our way to Napier, so we didn't have time to try it out.
Trout fishing is the feature of this area - with both the Rangitaiki and Whirinaki rivers close by. There is also a golf course, horse riding, and native bush and scenic walks along the two rivers.
