WAIKATO: SOUTH-WAIKATO

There are two prime locations we've found while driving around Lake Karapiro - the Hora Hora Reserve is one, and the Little Waipa Reserve is the other.

The Little Waipa Reserve is a little larger, and is also likely to be quieter. With mature trees and plenty of space for parking on the grass, a boat ramp for access to the lake, and well maintained toilet facilities, is is hard to beat.

Fishing is good, but we only saw the one boat out on the lake.

With only one other van, it was quiet and the autumn colours set against the deep blue of the lake were just stunning.

Self-contained caravans and campervans can stay the first two nights free then a camping permit is required for a longer stay. Camping in tents and vehicles requires a camping permit.
