The Tirau-Okoraire Rest Area is a large layover off the southern end of State Highway 27. It's a great place to stop for a break, with plenty of room for even the largest vans.
There are no signs to the contrary, so parking overnight in a self-contained van should be ok if you need somewhere to stop for the night.
