Waipatukahu Point Reserve is a large beachfront location where self-contained motor caravanners can freedom park for up to 2 nights.
This is an excellent location with plenty of room for event the largest vans.
You must be certified self-contained and park between the council signs, or you risk a $200 fine. At least the designated parking area is right on the beach front, with stunning views out over the Firth of Thames.
The parking area is set well away from the road, but you can see the local resident's homes across the road, as well as the Tapu campsite on the other side of the estuary.
We were going to spend the night here, after driving up the coast from Thames, but Shuping wasn't to keen on being so close to the old graveyard, so we continued up to the Little Waikawau Reserve.
