Designated freedom parking area
Beachfront parking, where we'd much prefer to park
The Te Puru Beachfront Reserve is a small reserve where self-contained motor caravanners can freedom camp.
You must be certified self-contained to park here overnight or you risk a $200 fine from the local council.
You must also park between the two signs - which are back from the beach front, and directly in front to the resident's homes. This made no sense at all to us, as it would be much nicer parking on the grass along the beach front, and would be less obtrusive to the local residents.
This is one of many examples, where the Thames-Coromandel District Council have made freedom camping available, and yet have imposed apparently arbitary constraints on where you can park.
