The Kahikatea Campsite is just before the Kaereranga Visitor Centre, and includes powered sites for motor caravanners.
There is also a choice of gravel, all weather parking, and on-grass parking.
Unusually, for a DOC campsite, it is only for certified self-contained motorhomes. The other 7 DOC campsites along the river valley don't have to be self contained.
You should book a powered site ahead of time by calling the Kaereranga Visitor Centre, or by going to https://booking.doc.govt.nz.
You are a short bush walk from the visitor centre, and you can access the river on the other side of the road.
There is a basic long-drop toilet within the campground, but a nicer one is also available at the Visitor Centre carpark, which is just a short walk away.
