Island View Reserve in Whangamata is on the beachfront and provides limited freedom camping for certified self-contained motor caravanners.
This is a nice location, with direct access to the beach and a nice view across the harbour. There's a large children's playground which includes a flying fox, and public toilets.
Freedom Camping is limited to just between the council signs, so it's best to avoid busy times or you might not find an empty space.
