Public toilets
There is a small carpark with public toilets overlooking Buffalo Beach where limited freedom camping is allowed for certified self-contained motor caravanners.
We arrived in Whitianga late on an autumn afternoon, looking for somewhere to stay for the night. The carpark has a nice view over the bay, but the main road was a bit noisy for us.
The toilets were clean and well maintained.
You have to park between the council signs if staying overnight, or you risk a $200 fine for non-compliance.
