The NZMCA park at Port Tarakohe is in a stunning location overlooking the Golden Bay harbour and with a mountainous backdrop.
The showers, toilets and laundry facilities are coin operated ($2) and only open from 9am to 5pm. The facilities are only available when the Club is open.
No overnight parking by the sea walls and no parking directly in front of Club building. You can stay for a maximum of 3 nights stay (Tasman District Council policy). Pets must be kept on leads at all times due to nesting penguins.
This is a great place for NZMCA members to stay, with walks out along the pier, or into Ligar bay. The harbour is popular for fishing, which you can do from the pier, or take an inflatable boat or kayak out into the harbour.
We stayed for one night in early autumn. It is not a large park and was almost full when we arrrived. It would pay to arrive early if planning to visit over summer.
And did I mention that we were treated to a stunning sunset!
