The Cobb Valley Reserve provides a picnic area alongside the Takaka river where self-contained motor caravanners can freedom camp.
While just a short drive from the main highway, it's not a particularly attractive location unless you want to go there for fishing in the river. The reserve wasn't well maintained.
Also, you need to be aware of rapid rises in river levels which might flood the parking area. It was already pretty wet when we were there, and we didn't take out motorhome into the reserve.
