The Hope river
The DOC Campsite at Kawatiri Junction features the historic Kawatiri Historic Railway Walk, including lots of information about life during this mid-1920s project.
There's plenty of room for parking. Only stream water is available, which should be boiled before drinking. There's a total fire ban.
This is a great location for anyone interested in early New Zealand history. There are 4 large posters detailing railway life and what was involved in building this infrastructure with only explosives and manual tools.
