Parking in the designated area - 8 metre van is way too long!
Countdown across the road from the park
Isel Park is a large public reserve in Stoke, at the southern end of Nelson. While it offers freedom camping for self-contained motor caravanners, the designated parking areas are only suitable for small vans which are unlikely to be certified self-contained!.
Unfortunately, with exception of the Fittal Street Reserve, Nelson has demonstrated that it is motorhome friendly in name only. All of the other freedom camping sites in the city area were too small to accommodate the larger motorhomes or caravans that are certified self-contained.
It's a real shame as this could easily be a great location for motor caravanners to explore this area of Nelson. The park is lovely and includes a museum and cafe. Plus there is a Countdown just across the road where you can top up with groceries.
Be aware, that the council also polices these freedom camping sites.
