Walkway through the forest
Sculpted rock in the Chasm
The Chasm was formed by thousands of years of swirling water through the gorge. Two footbridges offer dramatic views of a series of powerful waterfalls.
It is just a short walk, 15 minutes return, to the footbridge over the chasm viewing area. The work through our native forest is worth it all by itself - with giant ferns, and fern covered trees.
The volume and velocity of water flowing through the chasm gives some indication of just how much rainfall the Milford Sound area receives. and the patterns eroded into the rock look positively ghoulish.
The Chasm walk is about halfway between Milford Sound and the Homer Tunnel.
