The campsite at Knobs Flat offers non-powered parking but with excellent shower and toilet facilities in the dramatic Eglinton Valley landscape.
The campsite owner is a local artist who built the campsite facilities, and also runs the dsplay centre and public dump station next door. He is very knowledgeable on exploring the local area.
We called in just as it was getting dark, having driven up from Te Anau on our way to Milford Sound. We really liked the new shower facilities, which were an unexpected bonus, especially given the very basic facilities offered in the DOC campsites
There is also a bush walk up to a waterfall, which is supposed to be well worth doing. Unfortuntely, we needed to get away reasonably early so that we'd be in time for the boat ride on Milford Sound, so we didn't do that this time.
The only negative for us was a low hum from the generator (or pump) shed that was not far from where we were parked. It was more noticeable because everything else was so quiet.
