Scenic flights plane at the airport
The Makarora Visitor Centre has a cafe and can organise scenic flights, and also provides powered sites for motor caravanners.
Makarora is right on the northern boundary of the Otago region. Further north is the West Coast.
We called in on our way through to Haast in mid-autumn, and just stopped long enough to have a look at the cafe and campervan parking area.
The parking area is not large, but would accommodate large vans. There was noone parked there we we visited, but it might get quite busy over summer.
This would be a nice place to stay, especially if you want to splash out and take a scenic flight over the mountains and lakes.
