The Firehouse Museum is on the state highway 1, just north of Kaikohe.
Clearly visible from the main highway, I've driven past it many times, thinking that maybe I should stop and have a look. On this occassion, it was getting late in the afternoon as we were heading up to Kaitaia, so we decided to call in and have a look.
Brian Denton came out when we arrived and opened up the museum for us to have a look through. His enthusiasm for all things fire related was infectious, and the displays he had collected over the years, were a real testament to the time and energy he had poured in.
Museum entry was just $5 and has been a labour of love over many years.
We really enjoyed our visit, and appreciated Brian and Lesley's hospitallity.
