NORTHLAND: MANGAWHAI

Mangawhai Heads Holiday Park is a large campsite is right on the beach front. There's plenty of parking for large vans, and you're not far from the shops. 

The campsite is divided into two areas on either side of the public boat ramp for accessing the harbour. 

It would be best to avoid the busy summer holiday season if you're wanting to just chill out and enjoy the harbour. With it's beaches and boating just a 90 minute drive from Auckland, Mangawhai gets very busy over summer. 

There is much to enjoy, with the village market, local restaurants, Bennets chocolate factory, lots of different walks to explore, and a vibrant locat art scene as well as beach and fishing.

The campsite facilities are old, but well maintained in the area to the left of the boat ramp. New facilities have been built for the larger area to the right.

The boat ramp is also a popular spot for fishing. However, if you want to catch the big fish, you'll need to charter a boat to go outside the heads.
