The Waipoua Forest is one of our iconic attractions, featuring some kauri trees that are over 2,000 years old. There are well maintained walking tracks through the forest, and bus loads of visitors arrive all year round.
The campsite used to be managed by the Department of Conservation, but has now been taken over by the local Iwi.
It provides all the usual facilities, but there were only a few maintenance workers at the campsite when we arrived, so we weren't able to do more than to have a quick look around.
The Waipoua Forest information centre is just a short walk away, and they provide forest walk experiences, and an excellent cafe.
