Aratapu Tavern is located just before the small rural town of Te Kopuru on the Pouto Peninsula. A good location for a country pub meal, it also offers free free overnight parking for self-contained motor caravanners.
The parking area along the side of the pub building, was full up when we arrived - not with motorhomes, but with cars for all the pig hunters who had arrived for the annual wild boar hunt. We were invited to stay on for the spit roast later that afternoon, but had to continue on to our next destination back in Dargaville.
