Parking with a view over Hokianga Harbour
The drive north up the Kauri Coast from Dargaville to Hokianga takes you through farmland, past the Kai Iwi lakes and Trounson Kauri Forest, and through the Waipoua Kauri Forest. After driving up over the ridge you come to a parking area that is unique - with stunning views over the Hokianga Harbour. On a fine day, the water sparkles deep blue contrasting the golden sand dunes.
This is a place to stop for lunch, dinner, morning or afternoon tea - or just to stretch your legs and admire the view.
You should also plan some time to explore the Arai Te Uru Recreation Reserve - in Signal Station Road, just a short distance further along State Highway 12.
28-Dec-2015: The Far North District Council have just made this parking area available for freedom camping for motor caravanners in certified self-contained vans.
