Going fishing in a boat
Ohau C Canal Park is a large campsite overlooking the lake at the entrance to the canal.
The campsite is only open from September through to May, and registration must be paid in an honesty box at the kiosk upon arrival.
The facilities are basic - mainly toilets and a dump station.
There's a boat ramp to access the lake, or you can try fishing for trout or salmon from the shoreline.
Open fires are not allowed, and dogs must be kept a lead at all times.
This is a great location. There is plenty of room, so even though there were a lot of campers in early autumn when we arrived, we didn't feel crowded.
We enjoyed our overnight stay, but didn't have any success fishing the next day. Maybe next time.
