The campsite office
The Rakaia River Holiday Park is a large, modern campsite with excellent facilities, and is well placed for accessing the river during the fishing competitions.
We visited on an overcast, drizzling morning after spending the previous night at the Rakaia River Bridge rest area - which might have been free, but the campsite looked pretty good to us after listening to trucks and trains all of the previous night.
The facilities were all spotless, and it was far enough off the main road to be quiet. This would be a great location for a family holiday, or if you are participating in the local fishing competitions.
