There is a large parking area in front of the Kaikoura i-Site which has been set aside for large motorhomes and caravans to freedom camp inside the town. Of course, you have to be certified self-contained.
Parking from 8:30am to 5:30pm incurs the normal daytime parking fee. Staying overnight is free, except that you're limited to just one night every 30 days.
This is a great location if you want to do some shopping in Kaikoura, or try out some of the many eateries.
