Parking problems for large motorhomes

The Seafront Car Park in Kaikoura town overlooks the harbour and has a pedestrian footpath into the town centre. Freedom camping is allowed in certified self-contained vans.
However, it's not a large car park and was reasonably busy when we arrived While it's a prime location, it was not designed for larger motorhomes. It was only after we'd parked that we read the sign stating that the maximum vehicle length is only 5 meters.
We managed to squeeze in with our 8 meter motorhome, but there is a better place for larger motorhomes and caravans in front of the information centre right inside the town, which we only discovered when we walked into town.
