Fergusson Park is in a prime location overlooking Tauranga harbour, and provides freedom camping for self contained motor caravanners.
This park has just about everything - plenty of room, a fabulous view over the harbour, a great adventure playground if you're traveling with children, a boat ramp for fishing, and an excellent walk way along the beach front. There is a shower in the changing rooms
Update 13-May-17: we've just been advised that the shower is now cold water only.
If you have bikes, then you can cycle all the way in to Tauranga city.
However, while north facing, it is exposed to the wind, and it was quite windy on the afternoon that we arrived. This suited the kite surfers, who were taking advantage of the windy conditions, while we sat inside our motorhome watching the free performance.
However, we stayed overnight, and the next day was beautifully calm. There's not much to beat a clear Autumn day in a stunningly beautiful location, and Fergusson park certainly delivered for us.
The only negative for us was limit of just 3 vans per night, and only from Sunday to Thursday. We can understand that the park is likely to be pretty busy with sports activities over the weekend, but there is plenty of room for more vans to park overnight during the rest of the week.
Given that it's some distance from the main road, it's a pity to have driven there only to find that it's already full, especially when there is clearly plenty of room for everyone.
You do have another option at Kulim Park - which is just a few minutes away.
Both of these locations are favourite places to stay in The Bay.
