Moturiki Island is connected to the beach at Mt Maunganui by a causeway, and is a very popular walk, through forest and with stunning beach views.
Mt Maunganui, 'The Mount', is a very popular summer holiday destination because of it's beautiful sandy beach, holiday activities, beach walks, and cafe culture.
If you're looking for a 'quiet and peaceful' beach location, then this isn't it. But The Mount has it's own character, and the walk across the beach causeway to Moturiki Island is well worth doing.
Thereis plenty of parking if you avoid the busy summer holiday weekends, and you're also just a short walk from the Marine Parade cafes.
A walk out over the island, and then back for a Flat White, makes for a very pleasant afternoon on a sunny day.
You can park overnight, but there are other locations, like, the Surf Lifesaving Club, Taylor Reserve, and Motiti Reserve, where overnight parking in self-contained vans is allowed.
