Lake Rerewhakaaitu Reserve is on the shore of the lake, and is a stunning location in a quiet rural environment.
With clean toilets and direct access to the lake, this is a great location to go for a walk around the lake edge, have a swim, or just chill out.
The sign at the entrance advises no camping - which is not clear if that applies to self-contained vans. We'd cheerfully stay overnight, and be willing to move on if asked to.
There are three other campsites around the lake, but this would be our personal favourite.
