Tanners Point is a well established seaside community, with a public reserve on a small beach. It is mostly used by the locals, and features a picnic area behind the car park, as well as boat launching facilities.
We arrived around mid-afternoon on an overcast weekday, but there was still quite a lot of activity on the beach and jetty. I imagine it would be quite busy in the weekends and school holidays.
The toilet facilities were surprisingly basic for the location, being the same circular tank design that we also saw at MacMillan reserve.
Certified self-contained vehicles are allowed to stay overnight for a maximum of 2 nights. There is a limit of 3 vehicles at one time.
We had a quick look around before heading off to Tuapiro Reserve, which was close by and had been recommended to us as being a good place to stay the night.
