Walkway to the beach
The ocean beach on blustery winter afternoon
Bowentown is part of Waihi Beach, but extends south down a long peninsula. The parking area is roughly half way down the peninsula on the ocean beach side.
Very similar to the other ocean beach car parks along Waihi Beach, this is a little further away, and not quite so busy with passing traffic. Beach access is via a walkway over the sand dunes and the beach is a great location for fishing, sun bathing, or just giving the kids a chance to run around.
We visited on a cold blustery afternoon in mid-winter and didn't stay longer than to take a few pictures. We were the only people there at the time. But,, definitely worth returning in warmer weather.
