Maungawhero Falls is accessed from a small parking area alongside the Ohakune Mountain Rd, quite close to the Turoa ski fields.
There is a short bush walk to the falls, which looks stunning with Mt Ruapehu in the background. Unfortunately, it didn't show in our picture taken from the viewing platform.
You get the best view of the falls after heavy rain, or when the snow is melting.
