Mangaokewa Scenic Reserve is a large reserve set alongside the Mangaokewa Gorge river. While Freedom Camping is no longer allowed, this is still a great location for a day trip. There is plenty of room for even the largest motorhomes.
It was a brilliant sunny autumn afternoon when we visited, and we really enjoyed the peaceful environment. There is a bridge across the river, and walking tracks to explore.
The access road is sealed, but there are some agressive speed bumps on the way in, so take them carefully.
This is a great location to get away from everything (includnig your mobile phones), and to just enjoy our natural environment!
