The Karangahake River Campsite is tucked away on western side of the Ohinemuri River at the end of River Road. It's secluded and quiet with access to both the river and the Hauraki Rail Trail.
The facilities were good, and we enjoyed our stay overnight while meeting up with some good motorhome friends.
The next morning we all went for a walk along one of the 3 tracks that DOC have set up for exploring the gorge and it's railway history. The Karangahake Gorge is a great location to visit and explore.
The campsite is just a short walk from the main carpark, making this a good base, especially if you are visiting in the summer holidays, on on a weekend, when the main carpark is likely to be full.
Book with the campsite ahead of time, as it is not alway open.
