The Kaereranga Visitor Centre it DOC's gateway to the string of 8 campsites along the Kaereranga river.

The centre is an excellent information resource for the area, and it's well worth spending some time there before going on to the campsites.

There is also a short walk (5 minutes) to a model dam, which is quite interesting to do.

There is good parking and public toilets, but you can't stay overnight in the visitor centre carpark. However, you are spoiled for choice, with 8 campsites to choose from along the river valley. Some allow dogs, while others don't.

The first campsite, which includes powered sites, is within a short walk from the visitor centre.

All bookings should be made at the Visitor Centre and the staff are knowledgable and can help you choose the most suitable campsite.

The access road to all the campsites has recently been upgraded. It is still a gravel road, but we found it to be in good condtion, and suitable for large motorhomes.
