The DOC campsite at Kidds Reserve is just under 2km of the main Makarora-Lake Hawea Rd, in a beautiful, sheltered location.

It is quite a popular spot as there were a surprising number of visitors and campers when we were there on a sunny Wednesday in mid-autumn.

The view out over the lake is stunning. It is not a large campsite, and not a lot of room for large vans, so it would fill up quite quickly.

The toilets were clean and well maintained.

We noticed some wild rabbits running around. These are normally considered to be a pest because of the damage they do, but children travelling with you would enjoy seeing them.

Overall, a really nice location.
