Update: 17-Feb-2018

We've been advised by the owner of the Kakanui Campground that this reserve is no longer available for freedom camping.

Campbell Bay Reserve offers great views over the bay, and self contained vans can park overnight. Toilets are available, and there is access to the beach down a long footpath.

Depending on the weather, you can park in a sheltered spot, and with a great view.

We arrived in the morning, have just spent the night at the Kakanui Camping Ground - for us, this would have been a much better option.

It is not a large reserve, so it might well become difficult to find a space during the busy summer holiday period, but there was plenty of room in mid autumn.
